CHANGE IN PAYPAL POLICY FOR UK SELLERS...PLEASE READ

Postby KernowWitch on Tue Mar 25, 2008 5:03 am

Hi guys, didn't think I would be back so soon but after reading the announcements on ebay.UK I thought I should let you guys know. The announcement was posted March 24th:

'Currently, PayPal is offered on about 95% of listings on eBay.co.uk. Starting in late April 2008, we will require all sellers on eBay.co.uk to offer PayPal on their listings.'

I already offer paypal to international buyers worldwide but because I am a small seller & make very little profit I cannot aford to offer paypal as an option to my UK buyers, I accept cheques & postal orders only....it seems now that I have no choice....well I do...hubby listed on ebid.net this morning....

It seems to me that ebay is being very crafty here, ebay appears to think that while sellers are so concerned with the listing fees & feedback issues we are not noticing the other policy changes being slipped in...WRONG...I am reading everything I can about ebay now....

The two new policies I have read about this morning are a double kick in the teeth from ebay....Chrissy

Hi Chrissy in Corwall,
Another stupid Ebay policy - will it never end? I've also heard that free gallery pics are for US sellers only which means UK sellers still have to pay for gallery pics! I'm sure that many UK ebayers are very unhappy about that!

It can only get worst for ebay...Many UK sellers do not or want to offer paypal so it will be interesting to see how many will leave....Now, Now, ebay has offered free gallery to us until March 31st....little did we know it was a tacticle move on their part to let us think they were being overly generous after the 2 day free listing for up to 99 pence start, being as they then threw in the paypal policy....Chrissy

Chrissy -

It's good that you are updating your "corner" of the eBay world here! We are trying to stay on top of so much fast moving information, all the help we can get is certainly appreciated!

My pleasure, if I find out anything that helps I will let you guys know. That way we can make informed choices.
Ebay is really pushing out the boat before May 1st. In one month we have had here £10 voucher, 2 day free listing, free gallery pics & last week 5 pence listing...do you think they are trying to 'woo' us....All we want is fair fees & choices to sell or buy...yes these freebies are nice but they only used to offer them now & again...we are not stupid...Will check out what's been happening & let you know if anything new has happened...

Chrissy -

Good to hear from you again! Wow ... that has to be an unprecedented amount of discounts and freebies in such a short amount of time. But yet eBay keeps saying everything is just as it was, the boycott has had no impact. Hah! I'm hearing the same sorts of things on this side of the pond, but not as extensive as you've described. Interesting ...

Hope to see you at Wednesday's meeting. I know it's the middle of the night for you folks (sorry about that) ... but if you can't be there (who needs sleep??) there will be records of all so you won't miss out.

Take care, and keep up the great work!

Hi Deb

That's a ploy me thinks...to soften us up for when the new policies kick in....especially the paypal one....we know that, ebay knows that but they do it anyway...

What's the meeting on Wednesday?...Chrissy

Hi to our UK friends. I am a seller who sells on up to 9-11 different eBays, including the UK eBay. If it isn't bad enough, that it seems like eBay adds new rules every day here in the USA, I get no notification of the changes on any of the foreign eBays. So the only way I find out about changes, is when I start to list something. VERY FRUSTRATING!!!!!!

PLEASE keep listing all the news from the UK here on this forum. You are a life saver to me.

Hi Paula

Nice to meet you....thank goodness for forums like FS or else ebay would certainly keep us in the dark. But then again wouldn't you think they'd realise by now that we will find out eventually...it's called the internet.....sorry not been here for nearly a week so feeling very sarcastic as I have had some fun times with friends so raring to go...lol...

I will catch up with whats going on & then post any info I find over the next few days.....I think I will nip over now to the ebay boards to see what's going on.. hehe....will let you guys know if there is any mischief afoot.....Chrissy x

Thanks Deb, it's always nice to feel wanted...hehe...but I have been neglectful this last week in visiting you guys...sorry...will soon be rectified.

As well as getting ready for listing elsewhere I've been sorting out my ebay account. I have not listed for abt. 6 weeks & will not do again....I have been busy copying the details of my unsold listings to save me doing it again, plus I've been going through my invoices, etc, so I can let my repeat buyers know....it's only similar to when shops say 'we have moved'...put it this way I have been putting my 'Ebay House' in order.....hard work but liberating..

I will be droping in on the ebay chat boards later for a look around & maybe say my farewells....politely of course....Have a good day....Chrissy x

Chrissy, I think everyone is in a state of real transition right now. We have all been swept up in something that has been all-consuming and there is a feeling of real transition in the air. The changes are so dramatic and hard to accept, but I think the reality is really sinking in for a lot of people. I'm glad to hear you are making good efforts toward moving on and restructuring your business, but I do hope you will check back with us. You have great contributions and your personality comes through with a kind of positive warmth that we all need.

I continue to have great concern for the many people who are yet to learn what is ahead at eBay, and I hope there will be good help and support for them here. It feels a bit like we've all been through a terrible storm, and while there is still plenty of wreckage all around, it is time to take stock and start to rebuild. This site is slow right now as everyone gets their bearings, including those of us who have built the site--but we still have hopes that there will be a good interaction here with the crucial feedback about what people are experiencing as they move on.

Thanks for checking in with us, Chrissy--you're a bright spot in the day, as always!
