Contact the ACCC - DEADLINE MAY 2, 2008!!

Postby samanthacat0 on Wed Apr 23, 2008 3:34 pm

Hi all,

Our aussie mates need us to contact their ACCC to protest the changes being forced down their throats. Following is an email address and a letter to send. Please pitch in and give them your support. Thanks ....Jim

To the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission,

I'm a registered eBay user in the US.

I am writing to let you know that I am against eBay forcing sellers and buyers to use PayPal exclusively.

If PayPal is accepted as the exclusive payment method in Australia then eBay will implement the same practice in the US.

I am a seller and buyer.
As a seller I need to offer payment options to my customers. Many only want to send a money order or check through the USPS (postal service). Many prefer to use other payment sites.

Buyers will be forced to register with PayPal and disclose private banking and credit card information to PayPal. I know for a fact that many people are wary of sharing any private information online and would rather send a payment privately through the USPS.

Plus, I personally do not want to be forced to pay a fee to PayPal.
When customers send payments via the USPS then sellers do not have to pay a fee to PayPal.

PayPal greatly limits buyer's and seller's freedom of choice and forces sellers to spend money on PayPal fees.

Sincerely,

your name

DONE!
Thanks for providing the template Jim - makes it much quicker to zip off that letter to them! I just changed it around a little bit so they don't all sound the same ...

Thank you Deb!

Our Aussie mates are really getting ticked! Not only is PigPal being forced on them, but it doesn't even work for much of the time.

DEADLINE FOR THIS CONTACT IS MAY 2 -- TOMORROW !!

Postby ThumbsUp on Thu May 01, 2008 10:04 pm

If you haven't signed the anti-PayPal Petition for our friends in Australia, please do so.

AND - the deadline is TOMORROW, May 2, for contacting the ACCC over there with your opinions on the issue of eBay forcing Australia's sellers to use PayPal ONLY for auction payments. We need to support them and get all the letters from the USA that we can!

Samanthacat has kindly posted a template letter here for all to use.

THANKS EVERYONE - this truly is a global effort, and we need to do all we can wherever we are needed.

EFFECTIVE!!

Postby FirmGrip on Thu Jun 12, 2008 7:21 pm

It looks like our input is finally being given some respect--the Draft issued by the ACCC yesterday, denying the merit of eBay's claims is a HUGE victory!!

See the Announcement Board for an AuctionBytes article about this, and a link to the Draft!

THREE CHEERS FOR THE ACCC and their excellent and inarguable analysis of the situation!!
