Hello from a newbie - literally...

Hello Everyone,

My name is Barbara, compared to some of you, I was relatively new to ebay.
I love working with graphics and had sold a few templates and photos here and there and
decided to open a store with the intent of listing some of the things I had been shooting and creating.

I had no sooner signed up for the store, which was free the 1st month, when ebay decided to change the way
digital products were to be sold. This went into effect literally 2 weeks after I started setting up shop.
I spoke to several others who were in the same boat - mostly about possible workarounds. I decided to shut down my store - life is just too short to deal with such craziness.
Needless to say I posted a comment to ebay when I was e-mailed about reasons I closed my NEW shop.

So I haven't gone through some of the grief some of you have, I got out while I could and started my search for other download friendly venues.
Some of the names here look familiar - I tended to spend more time browsing & buying while on ebay than selling.
I did find another site to sell my products at, it just seems no where else has the traffic ebay has - hopefully that will change soon!

Nice to met you all and thanks for allowing me to join!

Hello, Barbara -

Welcome to Fair Shake! We're happy you've found us! This site is fairly new, but the members who've joined are a fantastic group. Hard working and dedicated. We have high hopes for this site in the future - that being to provide information and help sellers build their businesses on venues other than eBay.

You are correct in that unfortunately, at the current time, no other site has the traffic eBay has (had?) and it's tough to change. But the policy changes are so one-sided and so unfair, it's only a matter of time before eBay is a ghost town And the nice thing is, the people running the other, smaller sites are clamoring for new members. They know this is a golden opportunity as sellers (AND buyers!) leave eBay by the masses.

Have you looked into Etsy? I sell there (Mishigoss on Etsy) and just LOVE the site. I'm not sure, but I would think your items would qualify to sell on that site. What I like about it is, first and foremost - it costs me nearly nothing to sell there. Twenty cents to list a $4.50 item for 4 months, then another sixteen cents when it sells. Period. Secondly, the site is very clean and appealing. They don't allow all the different fonts and colors and sizes etc., so everything is uniform and neat.

You said you had already found another site to sell on, but didn't mention where. I wish you luck in your future online business! And again, welcome to Fair Shake.

Debbie

Hi Barbara

Welcome to FS, great to meet you, I'm Chrissy from the UK. You will find here a great friendly, helpful & supportive group of like-minded people who also like to laugh....

Whether someone was a new seller or one of long-standing the effects of the ebay policy changes have made an huge inpact on us all. This is why FS is an important forum...it is a place where people can safely air their views, concerns or just life in general...get information & support or just have a cry of frustration or a good laugh at a joke...

I do feel for you, having just got yourself established & then they pulled the rug from under your feet...It is difficult starting afresh somewhere new, especially when the other sites at the moment are slow but they will improve. More & more people are moving to these sites....Ebay was small at the begining (& will be soon...tut tut that was bitchy..hehe)....My husband listed on ebidUK weeks ago but he finally sold two items last week. So hang in there....

What type of things do you sell?....Good Luck....Chrissy x
