Other places to send info

Postby hotandvintage on Thu May 08, 2008 1:55 am

Sorry just thought about this so never thought it through, but have people been thinking of other places to send information?

I was thinking how many of you have suppliers that know you sell on ebay and also supply others who do the same.

Maybe a letter to your supplier telling them that you understand that they may be worried about the news coming from one of the places you trade (ebay) but they should be assured that you have taking steps, so that your stock requests will not drop due to what is happening at ebay.

Sorry have not got time to add the what but, as the press seems to be unwilling to cover this, then it may be time to start looking at other places.

maybe others have ideas on places to send information that is a little backdoor but would get the message across to the people that need to know.

These are some great suggestions, hotandvintage! We need to keep thinking like this, coming up with more and more ideas!

Be sure to add more if any others come to mind. You never know what might urge someone into action.

Another idea I mentioned on PSU a while back was to make use of the poll that most forums offer.
bat rather than going round the ones we know, go to forums that are not boycot topic related and put up a poll.

You can put in as much info as you think you need to to get the message across but the basics would be:

I am heavily involved in a the ebay boycott but have started to wonder if people who are not involved know it has been running this time since the first of may.

Then your questions

The aim is to not only find out how well the press are covering this but also to inform those people that tick no, or even read the topic that this is happening.

I have used this before trying to see how well the information was getting out during the last boycott. So most forums will allow it.

I have a question. Have many people heard of Alan Robson, who does some ghost TV show in the US? I think Linda Blair is the host of the spinning head and puke on you movie that I can't recall.
He is a talk radio presenter in the UK who likes to push new music, possibly an idea for the boycott song would be to send it in to other radio people that do the same. If you send it make sure you give a telephone number for the writer, as they do hold telephone interviews.

I wrote to the writer of the song, Balzenawe, about your suggestion, and also asked if he has a myspace page for the song.

I think it DOES need to get "out there" more, and could really help call attention to what is going on.

Another thing we were just on about on PSU is that someone was noticing that a lot of the forums are coming up high in the google search. So I was wondering with a little word manipulation and posts placed in the right place would it not be possible to make use of the most frequent searches.

Also a lot of people are going to be searching for answers in the next few weeks so pushing a list of the questions they may ask google may help, I'm sure most of the forums would not mind putting a post up, that way the effort would make use of the higher ranking of some of the more established forums.

H&V - this is good information! could you provide an example? That may help us know what information we need to provide buyers and sellers with this in mind. Thanks again for your contributions!

Someone had the problems written down, I think the terms were drawn from it. It was quick and said all the new people will need to know.

Make use of the tallants you have I think maggie could help you with the search terms to add to it.

I noticed something else that came up on PSU that may be of use.

members rage

If you read down to this section it is showing how pushing the news that is getting out and adding to the messages in another form of constant attack, then the thing is being revived by the response.

Still, times change. What hasn't changed, since January, is the vitriol of the average eBay seller, who is mightily ticked at the new feedback policy. Here are some of the comments I've received in response to my earlier eBay post. What really hammers home the anger meme is the fact that the post, dated Feb 7, has received comments right up through yesterday (that's very unusual; commenting typically peters out a few days after a post goes up). Anyway, here's some of what they're saying:

A lot of these things will never be read by anyone but us or reporters but responding to them can still make things happen.

maybe adding a list of those that can be responded to may be a good idea and asking people to do so would work.

I am going to add this suggestion to PSU, and maybe it would help if those from other groups did the same.

Maybe the noise can start as a whisper and grow from the ground up, if we do this?

Adding to the above you are looking for news did any one get a SS of what is being talked about here on PSU

here's even a rumor a PS keeled over from a heart attack and died once seeing his new Improved Feedback Experience. The link someone provided was deleted by E-Gremlins, as well as the forum-post it was linked to, so I suspect it is true. Page #217 post #14757, "Death of a Powerseller in Seattle".
(addendum@21:31-now at post#14656 Laughing )

This is more than likely just what it says a rumour but the ebay members are starting to find out about this and are going to be searching for answers, and ebays idea of keeping it all under wraps from its members may be hurting them more than we thought.
