I found this article on the web today, although it says it was posted 5/6/2008 it is in fact 4/6/2008 here. Thought you guys would like to know.....Kernow Witch

'QXL Online Auctions Quit The UK Market
Date: 05/06/2008
QXL, once the UK's leading online auction website, has given up the fight to compete with eBay in the British marketplace. Emails and notices on the website confirm the plug will be pulled at noon on 30th May.
The email to account holders said:
The QXL UK auction site is closing on 30 May, 2008.
We would like to inform you that we have decided to withdraw from the UK market and close the QXL.co.uk site.
Trading will cease on QXL.co.uk from 12 noon on Friday, 30 May 2008 and all accounts will be closed.
We request that those members who have an outstanding debit balance on their account to settle these as soon as possible. Any credit balances that remain in your account may be reclaimed by providing the customer service team the credit balance details on enquiries@qxl.com, subject to any outstanding fees which are due as at 30 May 2008 or on the closing of your account, which you will remain liable for. Please note QXL voucher credits have no monetary value so will not be refunded.
Please keep the following dates in mind when using QXL during May:
• Last day to list an item: 9 May, 2008
• Listings will not auto re-submit after 9 May, 2008.
• Last day to Bid/Buy: 19 May, 2008
• Last day to access remaining site tools such as My Account: 30 May, 2008
So another eBay competitor falls by the wayside in the UK leaving only eBid, CQout and Tazbar as eBay's nearest rivals in the UK marketplace.
The departure of QXL seems to have had an air of inevitability about it for some time according to Pheebay's admin "Sunray". He said; "Being part of the QXL Ricardo set up now, which has much busier and more successful online operations elsewhere in Europe, the investment or determination never seemed to be forthcoming to revitalise the UK operation in recent years. It's a shame because I still remember QXL as the first auction site I used in the days before eBay was even known by many people in the UK. Such memories make the departure of QXL feel like the end of a chapter."
He continued; "But, while I may not be an out and out eBay "hater", I do hope to see healthier competition against them in the UK market as competition will control eBay's excesses in terms of fees and make everyone raise their game to the benefit of users. With luck eBid or Tazbar can meet this challenge in time."
